How to refresh page without meta tag

Date: 2002/05/13 11:24

Q:
I redirect my page having pictures. Somehow, browsers don't update the new
pictures because those pictures share the same name and the browsers
think they are duplicate and eventually use the old picture.

I can't use meta tag<..refresh..> because my page will change only when
click summit.
Do you have any idea?

Thank you

A:
Use some JavaScript to generate the HTML code that references the pictures
and put random string to the URL. Like

src="/img/myimg.gif?123243535"

it will not disturb the web server (well, depends on the server, but most
servers do not care). The client on the other hand will see a different
URL.

Peter
Q:
I use Latex2html to convert a text file into html file. I don't know how
to interfere the program to add a reference. Can we just clean up
browsers' head by add a special header or use cgi.pm tools? I'm look
forward to your reply.

Thank you very much,

A:
I do not know the Latex2html program so I can not help. Most probably you
have to edit the resulted HTML file to alter it.

Peter
