500 Internal Server Error

Date: 2002/04/08 12:04

Q:
Hi,
I've got problems with using a cgi script. This script should help me
sending postcards throught the internet. I've uploaded it in ASCII to my
cgi-bin directory and set the CHMOD to 755. Only he wouldn't keep it at
755. Every next time it's again set at 644.
When i use the script i get 500 Internal Server Error.
What can i have done wrong?

There can be two possibilites:

1. YOu do not set the permission, you only think that the permission is
set, but it is not. Check the tools that you use. The best is if you can
get interactive UNIX login.

2. Some server process resets the permission of the file.

Ask for help from the ISP.

Peter

I use WS-FTP for uploading my files and for setting the permissions to
755. Do you have an other program for me to do this?

Q:
A:
I have no experience with WS_FTP but many people use it including setting
the permission. Setting the permission is NOT standard feature, or at
least not all servers support it. Check with the provider.

Peter
