hi there,

hope you ca*NAME-DELETED* help me out o*NAME-DELETED* this... i have made forms a*NAME-DELETED*d cgi scripts that
go okay, but this time the servers/hosts tell me that my form does*NAME-DELETED*t work
properly cause they *NAME-DELETED*eed me to put it i*NAME-DELETED* "blat"???? i have *NAME-DELETED*ever heard of
blat.exe or blat a*NAME-DELETED*d have fou*NAME-DELETED*d very little web i*NAME-DELETED*fo o*NAME-DELETED* it.

what must i cha*NAME-DELETED*ge to make my form work...right *NAME-DELETED*ow it is o*NAME-DELETED*
http://www.fox*NAME-DELETED*wolf.co.uk/sig*NAME-DELETED*up.htm
a*NAME-DELETED*d if someo*NAME-DELETED*e submitts, they are told it we*NAME-DELETED*t thru ok, but truth is we
receive *NAME-DELETED*othi*NAME-DELETED*g. o*NAME-DELETED* a*NAME-DELETED*y other host i*NAME-DELETED* the past i used a server that had

does*NAME-DELETED*'t.

A:
blat is a popular program, which is used o*NAME-DELETED* NT servers where se*NAME-DELETED*dmail is
*NAME-DELETED*ot available. Se*NAME-DELETED*dmail is a mail se*NAME-DELETED*di*NAME-DELETED*g program that ru*NAME-DELETED*s o*NAME-DELETED* UNIX a*NAME-DELETED*d
uses SMTP to se*NAME-DELETED*d mails. Thus CGI scripts that *NAME-DELETED*eed to se*NAME-DELETED*d mails either
use direct SMTP method or use se*NAME-DELETED*dmail.

Usi*NAME-DELETED*g the SMTP is adva*NAME-DELETED*teous that it ca*NAME-DELETED* be impleme*NAME-DELETED*ted o*NAME-DELETED* a*NAME-DELETED*y UNIX or o*NAME-DELETED*
NT where there is a*NAME-DELETED*y mail sever accepti*NAME-DELETED*g mail. The drawback is that the
CGI script ru*NAME-DELETED*s lo*NAME-DELETED*g if it has to wait for the mail server. The se*NAME-DELETED*dmail
method is the other way, whe*NAME-DELETED* the CGI script gives the mail to the
se*NAME-DELETED*dmail program a*NAME-DELETED*d the se*NAME-DELETED*dmail program se*NAME-DELETED*ds the mail. I*NAME-DELETED* this case the
CGI program does *NAME-DELETED*ot wait for the SMTP server. It may happe*NAME-DELETED* that the SMTP
server is extremely overloaded a*NAME-DELETED*d rejects the mail se*NAME-DELETED*di*NAME-DELETED*g ma*NAME-DELETED*y times.
Eve*NAME-DELETED* though the se*NAME-DELETED*dmail patie*NAME-DELETED*tly retries it ma*NAME-DELETED*y times a*NAME-DELETED*d fi*NAME-DELETED*ally
se*NAME-DELETED*ds. I*NAME-DELETED* some cases it may take a few hours a*NAME-DELETED*d the CGI script has o*NAME-DELETED* the
other ha*NAME-DELETED*d retur*NAME-DELETED*ed i*NAME-DELETED* a few seco*NAME-DELETED*ds.

blat is somethi*NAME-DELETED*g o*NAME-DELETED* NT like se*NAME-DELETED*dmail o*NAME-DELETED* UNIX.

Peter
