On Unix, how can I generate a symbol table for a *.so file created with
the cc -G command. The -w option is not available in my version of ar.

I do not know. I just compile shared libraries
cc -c -o cprog.o cprog.c
ld -shared -Bstatic -o cprog.so -lc
